Yes, Work Ethic is Critical – but there are Other Factors Also, Aren’t There?! – (A Reflection on the Seahawks Dismantling of the Broncos)

Just a short post.  For the last few weeks/months, I have been on overdrive praising Peyton Manning for his legendary work ethic.  It is still praiseworthy.

But, to put it mildly, there are a couple of other lessons to notice from last night’s dismantling of the Denver Broncos.

One is that Manning is not the only player with a great work ethic — there are other players (on the Seahawks) who also work plenty hard!

And, it appears that the old formula – plan + execution – was carried out flawlessly by the winning team last night.

And, from all accounts, the right coach, doing the right things, with (yes, this is an old fashioned word) “enthusiasm,” and the right touch in motivating and encouraging his players, puts Pete Carroll in rare air.

So, to all those audiences who endured my stories about Peyton Manning’s work ethic over the last few weeks…  sorry about that.  I still admire him.  But I think it is safe to say that one person’s work ethic is not enough to win a championship in a team sport.

What a dismantling!

Here’s the best article I’ver read so far on the dominance of the Seahawks:  The Agony (and Embarrassment and Humiliation) of Defeat:  How the Seattle Seahawks destroyed the Denver Broncos to win Super Bowl XLVIII by Josh Levin.  But I’ll be reading more in the hours/days to come.
