Focus (Daniel Goleman), and Remote (to help you work smart) – 2 Books to Help You Start the Year Just Right – at the January 3, 2014 First Friday Book Synopsis

I would like to invite you to attend the January 3, 2014 First Friday Book Synopsis.

There is nothing quite like the beginning of a year.  We have this sense of new beginnings.  We think:  I’m going to make the most of this year.  You almost “bury” the mistakes of the year gone by, build on the strong points, and move forward with new energy and resolve.

We have selected two good books to help you do that.

I will present my synopsis of the new Daniel Goleman book:

FocusFocus: The Hidden Driver of Excellence by Daniel Goleman.  (Harper:  2013).

Weaving in plenty of his “emotional intelligence” wisdom and counsel, with special attention to the role and place of empathy, this book will help us all focus more clearly for the year ahead of us.

Karl Krayer will present his synopsis of the new book by the 37signals team of Jason Fried & David Heinemeier Hansson:

Remote:  Office Not Required.  New York:  Crown Books.

1164-remotecoverThese guys are innovative, original thinkers.  I presented my synopsis of their earlier book, Rework, back in May, 2010, and look forward to this presentation by Karl.

Here’s the flier.  I hope you will mark your calendar, invite a friend or two, and join us on January 3.

(We meet at the wonderful Park City Club, 7:00 am — great breakfast buffet, with made-to-order omelet bar).  We are closing in on our 16th full year of the First Friday Book Synopsis).
