Apple to stop supporting original iPhone this year
A leaked internal memo shows that the 2007 breakthrough device will be reclassified as obsolete this summer meaning that owners outside the US will no longer be able to get their devices serviced.

——————–

In the last few days, I had the following experiences/made the following observations.

I had my Seiko watch fixed.  It is at least 25 years old.  They were able to get the parts with no problem at all.  And, by the way, the only thing it does is let me read the time (and the day of the month – if I set it correctly after a less-than-31-day month).  But, it really is nice – and, more importantly, is not obsolete.

But…my oldest son, the true Mac genius in the family, used my iPhone 5.  He has the iPhone 4s.  He was amazed at the speed on my newer iPhone.  (It’s the first time I’ve been ahead of him in a while).

And, Apple announced that it will no longer be able to service the original iPhone.  It is all of six years old, and it is now genuinely, fully obsolete.  (“Owners will no longer be able to get their devices reparied or serviced by Apple, except in California where the phone has ‘vintage’ status.”)

I don’t really have anything more to say except…  wow.  The pace of change is fast, and getting faster.

What else that is practically new is on the verge of being obsolete, I wonder?
