Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg – Maybe the Perfect “Jump Starter” for Progress in Your Organization

Just a quick note …

I’ve been asked to present my synopsis of Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg at a large company as a “diversity event.”

I think this is a good idea.  A “diversity event” leads to conversations about diversity, which can then lead to progress on the diversity front.  And, we need progress on the diversity front.

So, whether or not you create a book club, or bring in a speaker on diversity, or ask someone like me to lead a synopsis of Lean In, the question awaits – what are you doing to advance progress on the diversity front?

And, why should you care?  Because it is the fair and human thing to do.  And, because, companies with the greatest levels of diversity seem to do pretty well.  From Womenomics by Claire Shipman and Katty Kay, on the value of diversity regarding gender:

Women deliver profits, often in big numbers, and we are worth hanging on to…  By every measure of profitability – equity, revenue, and assets – Pepperdine’s study found that companies with the best records for promoting women outperform the competition.

Companies with women in top leadership positions have “stronger relationships with customers and shareholders and a more diverse and profitable business.”  (University of California at Davis study).
