A Handful Of Rules; Repeat Yourself A Lot; Act Consistently – A True Core In Your Core Values (Insight from Verne Harnish)

So many things to do…
So many skills to learn.
So many people and networks and circles to circulate in…

It almost seems impossible

It certainly, at times, seems too much.

But… we all need to do more of it – all of it.

There are skills we need to learn, like: people skills; (especially) technological skills; and…

There are people we need to meet, and events and circles we need to be at (to put those people skills to work).

But… in my reading and other work, even as I feel such overwhelm, I realize that all has to flow from come kind of set, very certain, center.

Scaling UpSo, here’s a quote from the newest Verne Harnish book, Scaling Up: How a Few Companies Make It…and Why the Rest Don’t (Rockefeller Habits 2.0):

In leading People, take a page from parenting: Establish a handful of rules, repeat yourself a lot, and act consistently with those rules. This is the role and power of Core Values.

Look at it again:

A handful of rules
Repeat yourself a lot
Act consistently
All flowing from your core values.

Pretty good advice… So, all that learning, all that networking, all those circle-expanding events, flow from a solid, unwavering center – your core.

And, hopefully, that center is about serving others more than it is about doing such things for your own benefit…

I am reading Scaling Up now, and will have my synopsis available soon on our 15minutebusinessbooks.com site.
